This won't protect your laptop from a hard fall, but it will safeguard it from the wear and tear that is inevitable with daily (for me, almost 24/7) use. It keeps the outside of my laptop scratch-free, and provides a good grip on table surfaces, etc. Usually the aluminum unibody Macbook Pros are so slippery, but the Speck case keeps my computer from suffering irrevocable damage from slipping and sliding. I docked a star because occasionally, when I am using my computer quite intensively, the addition of the plastic case makes the computer run slightly hotter than it does without the case; but even so, my CPU temp has never exceeded 120F. Also, the case snaps on really tight, but somehow dust can build up between the case and the computer, so you have to remove the case and clean it with the provided cloth (or, what works even better,... When we get a new one, we immediately put a SPEK cover on it and when it's time for it to "move on" to the next owner, it looks brand new. We can get top dollar for our very used (but not abused) laptops thanks to SPEK!! One of my sons was in the military; he took his laptop on deployment to Iraq. When he got back, the "guts" needed some repair. I LOVE my computer, I've never felt like this with my old PC's (many of you know this as well). I thought it would be a good idea to get a case for it. After doing a lot of research: and bought this case. When I got it I was happy with it. But after owning it for about 3 months, I cannot say so much.The Good: it fits well, easy to put on and take off, it seems like it protects ( I haven't tested it or anything)... that is about it. The Bad: The case easily scratches - if things get into the case, it will scratch or create gashes/indentations to your aluminum body. The Aluminum is soft, the case is too hard, and your computer will be damaged. If, instead, there were a thin layer of cloth or something this may protect your computer.
